Battle cry of Freedom

Battle cry of Freedom

31.10.2023

Among the files, we found a document saved by Denys himself. This is Denys's creation as a translator. In this case, from English.

Knowing Denys's attitude to the Flag, it is not surprising that he chose this particular topic for translation.

On May 6, 2019, the date indicated in the file properties, Denys made and recorded a translation of the famous march from the Civil War in North America, "Battle cry of Freedom", also known as "Rally 'Round the Flag".

The song was written in 1862 by American composer George Frederick Root (1820–1895) during the American Civil War. For more information about the march itself, see  here.

The translation feels close to the war in Ukraine. In the last verse, Denys intentionally makes a non-literal translation. "From the East and from the West",

Denys translated it as "All from West to East" and it sounds like a call to repel the enemy in eastern Ukraine.

You can feel the spirit and energy that Denys filled his translation with below. Pay attention to the emphases that Denys placed.
